Palestinian PM Attends 7th IT Expo 2014 at Birzeit University

Birzeit University’s Information Technology Faculty welcomed Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, university president Khalil Hindi, faculty members, students, and technology companies to the 7th Annual IT Expo 2014.

The exhibition included displays by Palestinian and international technology companies and displays of projects by Palestinian graduate students.

Hamdallah, speaking at the event, said that the information technology sector is one of the most important pillars of the Palestinian state, and provides the infrastructure for government activities as an essential tool through which we deliver our messages to the world.

Hindi said that Birzeit University recognizes the complementary relationship between academia and industry, and is very careful to keep its students in constant contact with the labor market. "I would like to point to the importance of the industrial sector and private sector contributions in supporting university research and development, looking at it as a long-term investment, and as a path to economic development based on knowledge, education and highly efficient human resources,” he told the gathering.

IT Faculty Dean Ali Jaber also spoke at the opening. "Today's event seeks to activate the partnership between the faculty and Palestinian technology companies for the advancement of Palestinian product information and to keep pace with the tremendous and highly accelerated development in information technology,” he said, “aiming to create a competitive atmosphere between faculty students to improve the university’s academic standing, in line with the university’s strategies and objectives.”
