Opening of a training course on “The integration of gender standards into the work of Palestinian Sharia Judiciary” - News

The Institute of Law at BZU in cooperation with the Council of  Sharia’ Judiciary opened on 16 June 2011, a
specialized training course on " the integration of gender standards
into  the work of Palestinian Sharia’ Judiciary ", within the project
"Developing curricula and training judges, prosecutors and lawyers,"
funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In his speech, the Director
of the Institute of Law, Dr. Ghassan Faramand, emphasized the importance of
this training course, targeting the most important pillars of integrity and
good governance, namely " Sharia’ Judicial Authority", which
constitutes the framework for guaranteeing human rights , family and the
Palestinian society. He explained that today’s event  reflects one of the
most important and necessary patterns for Palestinian state building, being a
model of cooperation between the Palestinian institutions. He asserted that
this activity is the fruit of a systematic effort invested by researchers at
the Institute of Law, along with women judges, judges and experts in order to
lay the foundations for sustainable judicial education in Palestine.

In his speech, the President of the Council of Sharia’ Judiciary. Sheikh
Yusuf Daibes, ,explained  the importance of these training courses in
the  enrichment of  Sharia’ judiciary, as the work of Sharia’
 judges effects every Palestinian family starting  from the moment of
medical examination prior marriage until death and inheritance.

The course’s duration is (5) days starting June 19 - 23, 2011, in which
(20) female and male judges participate  from various governorates of the
West Bank,. Also, the trainers are specialists in the field.
