New publications catalogue marks 40 years of university research and dissemination

Birzeit University celebrated the launch of its publications catalogue, a guide listing the publications of the university’s faculties, institutes, and centers since 1975, in a ceremony held on the university’s campus on Saturday, June 15, 2019.

President of Birzeit University Abdullatif Abuhijleh praised the efforts of the teams behind the catalogue as a major step toward preserving and archiving the university’s history and the intellectual and academic efforts of its faculty and staff. He called for further cooperation between the university’s various departments, faculties, institutes, and centers to maintain and disseminate Birzeit University’s research efforts.

Asem Khalil, the university’s vice president for community affairs, commended the efforts of the University Publishing Unit and the catalogue’s task force, saying that Birzeit University’s Publications Catalogue took seven months to prepare and publish. He added that the teams will now focus their efforts on raising the research and publishing capacities at the university.

While Rashad Twam, coordinator of the University Publishing Unit, gave a brief outline of the publishing catalogue, a 232-page guide detailing over 600 documents, books, papers, and articles published by the university’s various constituencies. Twam also highlighted the Publications Database, an online form of the catalogue that is constantly updated and revised with more details on the university’s past and upcoming publications.

The University Publishing Unit at Birzeit University was established in April 2018 under the university publishing regulations issued by the University Council. The unit is concerned with institutionalizing scientific publishing at the university and following up on the scientific publication carried out by the university colleges, institutes, and centers. The unit also documents, promotes, and distributes university publications and assists the Special Committee with the revision of the manuscripts of publications.
