New MDC talk show sheds light on Palestinian journalists
The Media Development Center at Birzeit University, in cooperation with Maan TV, has launched a new TV show entitled “Under Review,” a one-hour talk show which explores the various experiences of a number of Palestinian journalists from different areas and fields.
The 12-episode show, produced by Nibal Thawabteh and Nahed Abu Tu'ima, highlights important moments in the lives of Palestinians journalists, sheds light on their professional media practices, and, in the process, attempts to predict the future of media in Palestine by dissecting its current trends and directions.
In its first episode, the show hosted Mohammad Daraghmeh, director of the Associated Press’s offices in the West Bank, who discussed his early beginnings in media writing in Israeli Occupation prisons, his subsequent job in Nablus, and his move to Ramallah where he is currently employed.
MDC Director Nibal Thawabteh noted that the show represents a paradigm shift both in content and format. “It’s an attempt to reimagine an already established idea. The show comprises three segments, shot in different areas of the studio, which explore Palestinian media through three main points: the guests’ stories, their professional experiences, and their views on the state of Palestinian media.”
“The show,” she added, “probes the experiences of veteran journalists who have made their mark on Palestinian media. It presents an understanding of the reality of media in Palestine and a rereading of the events that shaped it before and after the arrival of the Palestinian National Authority, and its impact within various Palestinian cities and areas.”
Directed by Mohammad Sami Alwan and produced by Said Abu M’alla, the show hosts a group of veteran journalists such as Aref Hijajwi, Walid Al Omari, Abdel Rahman Othman, Noor Awawdeh, Khalil Shaheen, and Nabil Amro.
“Under Review” is shot in Birzeit University’s studios, produced by the Media Development Center in cooperation with Maan TV, and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
