New cooperation promotes Arabic language and culture conference

A joint academic conference on Arabic Language Teaching as a foreign language with the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science will be held at Birzeit University. The conference will discuss the challenges of teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers, and will look into the quest for better teaching methods.

The university, represented by President Abdullatif Abuhijleh and the Secretary General of the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Murad Al Sudani, agreed to work together on the conference by organizing workshops and lectures on academic, cultural and media issues.

Abuhijleh expressed his enthusiasm about this cooperation with the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, describing it as a necessary step towards greater integration between culture and higher education, which will make positive contributions to the Palestinian community.

The president reaffirmed the university’s support for the importance of promoting the Arabic language worldwide due to dwindling use of the Palestinian native language. “The university offers a combined experience of language and culture through the Palestine and Arabic Studies Program for international students. We believe that education is culture in motion, an academic portion comprised of Arabic language and social science courses.”

Al Sudani talked about the commission’s role in contributing to solid academic and cultural institutions. “We aim at strengthening our ties with local and international organizations, where we can share experiences and work integrally to contribute to the process of sustainable development.”
