New Birzeit University Students Receive Hearty Welcome

On August 25, 2014, Birzeit University Deanship of Student Affairs started receiving new students for the first semester of the academic year 2014-2015. Student orientation , co-sponsored by  Wataniya Mobile Company, covered various academic and non-academic issues of interest to the new students.

Dean of Student Affairs Mohammad Al-Ahmad talked about the university’s liberalism and the freedoms enjoyed by students, in addition to students’ rights and duties. Al-Ahmad then called on students to participate in extracurricular activities and take advantage of the assistance provided by the Deanship of Student Affairs Office.

Registrar Khaled Al-Tukhman said, "We seek to organize and facilitate the admission procedures to make things easy for our new students."

Wataniya Mobile public relations officer Ruba Abdo said that her company’s sponsorship stems from Wataniya’s belief in its social responsibility towards Palestinian society in general and students in particular.

Orientation program coordinator Ehab Maharmeh said that the program seeks to break the ice for the new student and the university and orient new students with student life on campus.

During the meeting, an introductory film was screened that overviews the university and its facilities. Then Mohamed Zinedine from the computer center gave a presentation on how to use the academic and administrative portal “Ritaj” on the university website. Voluntary work officer Ghada Omari gave a briefing about the spirit of volunteerism on campus, while head of the student council Mustafa Mustafa addressed the sacrifices made by Birzeit University, most recently the martyrdom of student Saji Darwish.

This was followed by a campus tour led by a number of former university students trained to assist their colleagues through the voluntary work program.
