New agreement with Sama Pharmaceuticals in research and training

The Samih Darwazeh Institute of Industrial Pharmacy at Birzeit University and Sama Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Company signed an agreement on October 16, 2018, to cooperate on innovative research and training in pharmaceutical industries, organize joint lectures, and conduct medical analysis.

The new partnership will strengthen ties between the services and production sector, and academic institutions in Palestine.

The university’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Henry Giacaman, and General Manager of Sama Adeeb Saifi signed the agreement in a ceremony attended by Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Professions Rania Abu Hamdah, Director of the Samih Darwazeh Institute Hani Ishtayeh, and Director of the Office of Grants and Contracts Amir Khalil.

Giacaman said that the university believes in the importance of building ties between the academic and private sectors in Palestine. “The Samih Darwazeh Institute is keen to develop the local pharmaceutical industry and to become the reference for high-quality pharmaceutical industry and research in cooperation with the local and regional pharmaceutical manufacturers like Sama.”

Saifi expressed his excitement about the new partnership between Birzeit University and Sama, saying “this new opportunity is an important asset. We believe that it will contribute to bridging the gap between the needs of the labor market and the graduates’ competencies.”
