New agreement with Advisory and Legislation Bureau to support legal research, training

Birzeit University president Abdullatif Abuhijleh and Iman Abdul Hamid, a counselor at the Advisory and Legislation Bureau agreed on enhancing academic and research cooperation between the Faculty of Law and Public Administration and the bureau in a meeting held on October 21, 2019.

Dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration Abderrahman Ibrahim and Hala Shoaibi, the chair of the Department of Law, attended the signing ceremony.

Upon this agreement, both parties will share expertise in legal aspects and will cooperate in supporting the legal research and scholarly work of faculty and staff, in addition to offering training and internship opportunities to students.

Abuhijleh expressed his enthusiasm about the new cooperation that connects the university and its students with the local community to help them gain real-life and practical experiences.

Abuhijleh pointed out that “The Faculty of Law and Public Administration is a distinguished faculty in Palestine, well-known for its quality of education and interdisciplinary knowledge as well as for promoting critical thinking and employing interactive teaching methods.” The faculty trains students to become highly qualified professionals, capable of working in diverse areas related to law, political science, and public administration, he added.

Abdul Hamid said that this cooperation falls in line with the bureau’s mission and commitment to improve the drafting of laws and the effectiveness of legislation. The counselor explained the work of the bureau that revolves around developing and drafting legislation, assisting and advising the formulation of policies and preparation of policy reports, advising on the application and implementation of laws, and advising public officials and public authorities (such as the president, cabinet, ministries and governmental organizations) in their work.
