MDC teams up with Al-Wehdat Club, launches media training course

Participants were trained on public speaking, news writing, and broadcast skills

The Media Development Center at Birzeit University, in cooperation with Al-Wehdat Sports Club, has recently launched the “Media Spokesperson” training course in Amman, Jordan.

Al-Wehdat Board Member and Media Spokesperson Ghassab Khaleel said that the club is “looking forward to a new era of media coverage and production, especially after the inauguration of the press conference room. We need to strengthen our media presence to match the club’s victories and achievements.”

Khaleel also noted the “cooperative spirit” between Palestinian in the occupied Palestinian territories and the diaspora, adding that Al-Wehdat Sports Club will always cooperate with Birzeit University to produce written, broadcast, and electronic media that speaks of the club’s accomplishments and activities.

Media Development Center Director Nibal Thawabteh gave a brief overview of Birzeit University and the center and highlighted the center’s regional media training program, which started four years ago, that aims to “reach Palestinians in Beirut, Amman, and Nazareth, overcoming all boundaries to tap into Palestinian capabilities and capacities.”

The course was attended by reporters, journalists, editors, photographers, and media activists from the club’s website and social media pages, fan club social media pages, and Jordanian newspapers.

The three-day course featured Emad Alasfr, who reviewed media discourse skills, public appearance skills, and crafting messages to reach their intended audience; Saleh Masharqeh, who trained participants on news writing in preparation for expanding the club’s website and newspaper news coverage; and Nibal Thawabteh, who coached attendees on TV-broadcast skills and proper body language and gestures.

The course, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), was coordinated by Hussam Barghouthi, while Thafer Sabbah handled the technical aspects of the course.
