Lecture on the Political Implications of the Partition Resolution 181

On 28 November 2013, the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies at Birzeit University in collaboration with Altawasol Forum Society held a lecture on the political implications of the Partition Resolution No. 181 issued on 29 November 1947. The lecture was delivered by the professor of political science Dr. Samir Awad in which he analyzed the political aspects of the resolution.
Awad said that the partition resolution came as an indicator for the absence of reconciliation between the Jewish and the Palestinian Arab people. The resistance and revolutionary movements at that time rejected the British mandate. He pointed out that Jewish immigration was not the only problem at that time, but the biggest problem was the British politics, which granted the Jews the right to a homeland in Palestine.
Awad asked a number of questions such as: What is the meaning of our objection to the partition resolution in 1947? and is it better for us now to revive the resolution to be the basis for a future Palestinian state? He also noted that the partition resolution is based on international law, which leaves more room for us to get the support of the international law and international community.
The lecture is part of the right of return project, funded by the Norwegian People's Aid.
