Lecture Explores the Roles of Governor and Mayor

The Birzeit University Faculty of Law and Public Administration organized on June 9, 2014 a lecture entitled "The Governor and the Mayor: Intersecting Roles." The event augmented two courses in local government and the principles of administrative law offered at the faculty.

The talk was delivered by legal advisor to the Governor of Ramallah and Al Bireh Areej Oudeh and Federation of Municipalities head Isam Aqel.

Oudeh addressed the legislation on which the governor bases his/her work mechanism, presenting the Jordanian legislation still in force in Palestine.

Aqel then went on to discuss the relationship between the municipality and governorate, which is complementary, he said, and not conflicting. He said that there is the intention to change the way governors are chosen from appointment to elections.
