Lecture on “Design of High Gain and Steerable Millimetre Wave Plasmonic Antennas”

The Birzeit University Electrical Engineering Department held a lecture on “Design of High Gain and Steerable Millimetre Wave Plasmonic Antennas” on 12 November 2013.The Guest Speaker was Mr. Shaker Alkaraki, who received a degree in communication engineering with first class honors in 2011 from the International Islamic University in Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lumpur. Earlier, Shaker received master degree with distinction in communication engineering from University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
Abstract:
High gain antenna is an antenna focuses the radiation of electromagnetic waves “antenna’s beam” towards single direction. Millimetre-wave antenna means that the antenna’s dimensions and the operation electromagnetic waves are in the millimetre size; meanwhile, steerable antenna means that the antenna’s beam is steered (directed) without physically moving the antenna. The proposed plasmonic antennas have promising potential applications in many fields such as: radars, defence systems, imaging systems and many biomedical applications such as: cancer detection, because of their high penetration and resolution characteristics
