Lecture Analyzes Egypt’s Turbulent Past and Future

The research committee at the Birzeit University Philosophy and Cultural Studies Department held on January 15, 2014 a lecture entitled "The Future of Islamic movements and democracy in Egypt and the Arab countries." The lecture on the Egyptian revolution and Egypt’s future prospects was delivered by Professor of Philosophy and Cultural Studies George Giacaman.

Professor Giacaman reviewed several possibilities, arguing that there is no individual or party that can govern Egypt and can solve its problems quickly, and thus the system will have limited reforms. Or alternatively there will be a broadening of the base of power by a group or individual through the redistribution of responsibility.

Giacaman said that current efforts to root out the Muslim Brotherhood are implausible in view of its popularity and efforts to form new Muslim Brotherhood movements.
