Law Master's Programs Organize a Discussion on Law and Artificial Intelligence

December 7, 2024- the Master of Law programs at the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at Birzeit University organized a seminar titled “Law and Artificial Intelligence” with the participation of Master and Bachelor of Law students.

Dr. Ahmad Khaled, Director of the Master's Program in Public Law, opened the event, stressing the importance of this meeting in promoting convergence between different scientific fields and highlighting the overlap between law and artificial intelligence. He explained that this seminar is the start of a series of specialized dialogues that the master's programs plan to organize.

Dr. Mustafa Jarrar, director of the PhD program in Computer Science, outlined the concept of artificial intelligence and how it works, in addition to its various applications, including its legal uses.

Dr. Amir Khalil, Director of the Master's programs in Private Law and Law and Economics, addressed the legal framework of AI and the legal issues associated with its applications, such as criminal justice, contract review, and legal support. He also highlighted the legislative environment governing this technology in different countries, and the urgent need to develop appropriate controls and legislation.

As for Dr. Mohammed Alkhader, Director of the Law and Information Technology Program, focused on the technical aspect of AI, and reviewed its contemporary challenges, such as invasion of privacy, data protection, and discrimination in decisions. He referred to the ongoing global debates on these issues.

After the seminar, the speakers answered questions from the audience related to the legal issues resulting from the use of AI.

This seminar is part of a series of specialized legal meetings organized by the Faculty of Law and Public Administration to explore AI's impact on various areas of law, from legal liability to digital human rights, and to enhance academic and professional understanding of this modern phenomenon.
