International Humanitarian Law Course Tests Student’s Knowledge

In partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Birzeit University Faculty of Law and Public Administration concluded a first round of international humanitarian law training on June 28, 2014.

Faculty Dean Asem Khalil welcomed the deputy director of the ICRC in the West Bank, emphasizing the need to make law students aware of international humanitarian law rules and principles by offering courses or providing training in the field.

The session, attended by 25 law students, lasted three days and covered topics such as an introduction to international humanitarian law and its relationship to international human rights law, the classification of armed conflicts, categories of persons protected under international humanitarian law, as well as the role of the ICRC and the International Criminal Court in its implementation, in addition to problem-solving exercises meant to expand their knowledge.
