High Blood Pressure Lecture Informs Community

Birzeit University’s Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Health Professions with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) sponsored a lecture informing about the causes and dangers of high blood pressure.
The event, held on April 18, 2013, is part of the MoH’s commemoration of World Health Day. This year's slogan is "Are you under pressure? Watch your blood pressure to reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke."
The lecture aimed to raise awareness in the university community to take precautionary measures before this chronic disease reaches advanced stages, especially since its symptoms appear at a late stage.
Ramez Dwaikat, head of the non-communicable chronic diseases department at the MoH told the audience, "This campaign is to support preventative measures before the disease appears, and before arriving at an advanced stage of high blood pressure, which accounts for 50% of the causes of death in Palestine."
The Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions was exciting about the lecture as a way to educate the local community on the importance of addressing high blood pressure, which is a silent killer of people of both sexes and at various ages.
