Greece to expand academic cooperation with Birzeit University

Consul General of Greece Christos Sofianopoulos met with Birzeit University President Abdullatif Abuhijileh on November 28, 2019, to deepen academic coordination between the university and Greek institutions of higher education. Attending the meeting was Director of the External Academic Relations Office Amir Khalil.

The parties emphasized the importance of offering mutual exchange opportunities for students and faculty of Birzeit University and of Greek universities, enabling them to learn and teach in both Palestine and Greece.

Abuhijleh emphasized the strong relationship Birzeit University enjoys with Greece and its higher education institutions. The university, Abuhijleh asserted, seeks to reach out to a wide range of international universities to network and exchange expertise and knowledge.

Khalil told Sofianopoulos about the partnerships Birzeit University has with universities in Greece, especially those that are part of the Erasmus+ program. In addition, the university has formed independent agreements of cooperation with the University of Aristotle of Thessaloniki, the University of Crete, and Hellenic Mediterranean University.

Sofianopoulos praised the solid ties that connect Greek and Palestinian universities and stressed the importance of continuity in this comprehensive relationship. He expressed his interest in offering students an elective course in the Greek language at the Department of Languages and Translation in the university’s Faculty of Arts.
