Four Lecturers to Pursue Higher Education Abroad with Paltel Grant

For the third year in a row, Birzeit University and Paltel Group have awarded Birzeit University teachers with grants to pursue their doctoral degrees at renowned international universities.

Four teachers will be given scholarships. Farid Ershaid from the Public Administration Department will study for his PhD in Australia, Mohamed Mohsen from the Geography Department, Aziz Qaroosh from the Computer Systems Engineering Department, and Saleh Salous from the Computer Science Department will further their education in France.

In all, 13 teaching staff have benefitted from the unique grants program.

Paltel Group CEO Ammar Aker said, "Our cooperation with the Palestinian academic community is part of our strategy to harness our services and resources in favor of what is best for science and Palestinian universities."

Assistant Vice-President for Academic Affairs Wael Hashlamoun also applauded the program, saying, "We need in Palestine programs that support and develop the education sector via a qualified academic staff in Palestinian universities by offering them the opportunity to seek their higher education and earn their doctoral degrees in disciplines needed by the Palestinian community from prestigious international universities.”

The IFAD Scholarship Program has triggered a qualitative leap in the university’s quest for academic excellence. The program, a five-year agreement signed by the university administration with Paltel Group in 2012, stipulates that Paltel Group shall provide annual funding to send teaching staff to earn their PhD degrees from universities abroad in disciplines prioritized by the university.
