Fifth Open Health Day Demonstrates "My Life is My Health”

The Birzeit University Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions organized on May 27, 2014 the Fifth Annual Open Health Day under the slogan "My life is my health." The event seeks to promote interest in public health and deepen relationships between students and the Ministry of Health, health institutions, civil society organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and the local community.

Faculty Dean Tamer al-Esawi said that the open day raises awareness about health in Palestinian society, and promotes healthy living as a key strategy to combat health problems. “The faculty seeks to communicate with the local community through our various activities,” Esawi said, “among them the open day, during which student groups carried out tests in homes for the elderly.” The faculty recently opened a speech and hearing center to provide services to the local community. Esawi also announced the opening of a drug guidance center, which is expected to provide pharmaceutical consulting services to the university and local community.

Among the faculty’s achievements, Esawi mentioned the process of furnishing the Samih Darwazeh Institute for Pharmaceutical Industry, which will provide students with practical experience.

The open day featured a variety of health tests for visitors such as: blood pressure and pulse measurement, an oxygen concentration test, sugar test, eyesight testing, EKG, and an examination of lung functions. It also included nutrition and diet directives.
