Female artists, musicians of the Faculty of Art, Music and Design ranked first in Transglobal World Music Chart

“Henna: Young Female Voices from Palestine,” an album produced by students, alumni, and faculty members at Birzeit University’s Faculty of Art, Music and Design, was ranked number one in the Transglobal World Music Chart in August 2021.

The album is the brainchild of Erik Hillestad, of Kirkelig Kulturverksted, and Suhail Khoury, director of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, who produced the album along with their teams, compiling original and folkloric Palestinian songs by young singers and artists.

Those who worked on the album include 2021 Faculty of Art, Music and Design alumni Henna Haj Hassan (singer), Mahmoud Awad (writer and composer), and Iyad Staiti (composer), in addition to Acting Director of the Bachelor’s Program In Music Yacoub Hamoudeh (executive producer), Ihab Haniya (recording and technical engineer), English literature alumnus Ziad Swalmeh (writer), and current Birzeit University majors Miral Ayyad and Nour Freitekh (singers).

Henna is available on Spotify and Anghami.
