Faris Tayseer Al Jamal awarded the Yousef Nawas Award for Innovation

Faris Tayseer Al Jamal, a student in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, was the recipient of the 2017 Yousef Nawas Award for Innovation for his efforts in leading and inspiring extracurricular and social activities that bolstered Birzeit University’s community engagement.

Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh, the president of Birzeit University, gave Al Jamal the award on behalf of the University Council on June 13, 2018, and wished him more success and even greater contributions to the Palestinian community.

“The biggest challenge I face is how to strike a balance between extracurricular activities and my studies at the university,” said Al Jamal, who, in addition to excelling in music, videography, and academic research – he is an active member of the university’s Idea Factory – is also a volunteer at Al Nayzak Organization for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation and the Ramallah Municipality.

Al Jamal is expected to represent Birzeit University in the 2018 Forum for Creative Students, which is organized by the Arab Council for Training Students of Arab Universities.

The Yousef Nawas Award for Innovation was launched by Birzeit University in 2006 to encourage creativity and ingenuity in all fields. To be considered for the award, candidates must be regular students who have earned at least 80 credit hours at the university; must have a cumulative grade point average no less than 80 percent; and their contributions to the community must be unique, adapted to the Palestinian context, and of an interactive nature.
