Faculty of Law, Defense for Children International to Promote Child Rights

Birzeit University’s Faculty of Law and Public Administration and Defense for Children International-Palestine Section (DCI) will work together to promote and protect children’s rights in Palestine.

Present at the signing of the cooperation agreement, Faculty of Law and Public Administration Dean Yaser Amouri and DCI General Manager Khaled Quzmar said that the new partnership will utilize workshops, training sessions and other exchanges to enable law professors and future advocates to better defend and secure Palestinians’ best interests.

The activities will explore major child rights violations in Palestine and look into ways of strengthening the implementation of national and international law to protect children.  Participants will also investigate and document child rights violations in Palestine, holding both Israeli and Palestinian authorities to account.

Amouri explained the importance of child rights in proper child development and child rearing. He restated Birzeit University’s commitment to realizing all rights for all children through Palestine’s national jurisdictions and international law.

“Cooperation between academic entities and civil society organizations continues to grow and transform based on local needs,” Amouri continued. “This partnership will have an important role in shaping policies and laws to promote our children’s fundamental rights and needs.”

Quzmar hoped that this agreement will create a leading voice in efforts to achieve a fair national judiciary system and educate legal advocates that are able to mobilize international support for protecting Palestinian children.
