Faculty of Information Technology Opening

Birzeit University has added a new building to its campus, inaugurating on April 13, 2013 the Faculty of Information Technology, which will house computer science laboratories and other facilities.
Board of Trustees Chairman Hanna Nasir, Birzeit University President Khalil Hindi and businessman Munib Masri spoke at a ceremony inaugurating the new building, named the Munib R. Masri Building for its sponsor.Chairman Nasir expressed his gratitude to those individuals and groups that support construction projects at Birzeit University, noting that, thanks to their generosity, the campus has grown to 20 buildings."The building is the last of the university’s new buildings, and consists of four floors, with a total area of more than 4,000 meters for classrooms and laboratories,” he said. The faculty hosts the Computer Systems Engineering Department and Computer Science Department, in addition to the Ibn Sina Institute of Knowledge Engineering and Arabic Technologies.
"Lucky is he who leaves his footprints on the sands of life,” said President Hindi, “whereas Mr. Masri is a very lucky man, since he impacted, is impacting and will be impacting the economic, political and educational sectors in Palestine."
Masri said he was delighted with the opening of the building, and emphasized the importance of investing in education to achieve development and independence in Palestine. He said that the vision of the Munib R. Masri Development Foundation, which he created, is to enhance school and university education and he commended the role of Birzeit University in graduating qualified students.
“We at the Munib R. Masri Development Foundation have been honored to contribute to the construction of many colleges and schools on Palestinian land and in the Palestinian Diaspora, and we consider that part of our duty towards our homeland and the Palestinian citizen,” said Masri.
Masri said that he hoped that initiatives such as these will be incentives to those capable of supporting our universities and other educational institutions.
Construction on the new IT building began in mid-October 2011 and was completed by the end of February 2013, at a total cost of $2 million. It  includes five laboratories for the students of the Computer Systems Engineering Department and five laboratories for students of the Computer Science Department, in addition to classrooms, offices and space for the Ibn Sina Institute of Knowledge Engineering and Arabic Technologies.
