Faculty of Engineering and Technology celebrates academic excellence in annual ceremony

Faculty holds event to honor 73 high-achieving engineering students

Seventy-three academically-excellent engineering students were celebrated in a ceremony organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, together with Wataniya, a Palestinian telecommunications company, on May 26, 2018.

The celebration was attended by Dr. Khaled Abaza, dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Shadi Qawasmi, director of marketing communication and public relations at Wataniya, chairs of departments in the engineering faculty; and honoree students’ parents.

“Academically-excellent students deserve all the applause for their efforts in seeking not only to understand knowledge, but to apply and produce it,” said Abaza, noting that the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, with its eight academic programs, annually celebrates the first and second highest-achieving students from all programs and academic years.

Qawasmi highlighted Wataniya’s continued support for education and higher education in Palestine, and commended Birzeit University for its distinguished academic programs and offerings, calling it a “source of pride for Palestine.”

“We believe that the youth and college students are one of the most important segments of Palestinian society, and as such, we strive to support them and further encourage their journeys,” added Qawasmi, who further remarked that most of Wataniya’s employees were Birzeit University alums.
