Faculty of Arts Honors Author Sonia Nimr for Sharjah Award in Literature

On February 23, 2015, the Birzeit University Faculty of Arts honored professor of philosophy and cultural studies Sonia Nimr for winning first place in adult literature in the Arab world for her book, Wondrous Trips to Strange Places, at the 2014 International Book Fair in Sharjah, UAE.

Faculty of Arts dean Mahdi Arar presented Nimr with a plaque for Nimr, expressing his and the university’s pride in this great cultural achievement.

Sonia Nimr is a writer living in Palestine. She teaches at Birzeit University and lives in Ramallah with her young son. She collaborated with Elizabeth Laird on A Little Piece of Ground (Macmillan), the first children's novel to be published in the UK about events in the occupied West Bank from the perspective of a Palestinian boy and his family.
