Engineering students win in annual IEEEXtreme programing competition

Sixteen teams from Birzeit University received the biggest share of winnings among Palestinian competitors, and scored 86th internationally, in the annual IEEEXtreme competition. The competition is held by the world’s largest professional organization for the advancement of technology, the IEEE-Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Competing against 48 Palestinian and 4,103 international teams, Birzeit University’s winning teams took over most of the top ten prizes on the local list, winning all but the third and fourth places.

Experts Turnkey Solutions, Birzeit University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit, and the Public Relations Committee of the university’s student council sponsored the competition that started on October 19, 2019. The teams competed against each other in a 24-hour time span, trying solving a set of real-world programing problems.

Mahmoud Hussein, secretary of the IEEE student branch at Birzeit University, said that 45 students participated in 16 teams affiliated with Birzeit University.
