Dr. Mai Albzour withdraws from conference in Munich due to academic censorship
Dr. Mai Albzour, assistant professor at the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, withdrew from the 19th Biennial Meeting of the International Society for Justice Research held in Munich, Germany.
Prior to her withdrawal, Dr. Mai Albzour had submitted a field research that examines hegemonic and dominant theorization on reconciliation and bigotry (prejudice) in the fields of social psychology and political psychology.
Dr. Albzour’s withdrawal came in response to academic censorship and restrictions imposed by the conference organizers on the content of her research, who claimed that her research might cause discomfort to conference participants who support Zionism.
Following her withdrawal and calls from some participants for the conference organizers to reconsider their stance, the organizers issued an apology. However, Dr. AlBazour had already withdrawn from the conference, stressing that she does not accept the discrimination against Palestinian academics, manifested in the restriction of cultural and academic activities that addresses Palestinian affairs.
