Dr. Mahdi Arar receives 2022 ALECSO-Sharjah Award for Language and Lexical Studies

Dr. Mahdi Arar, professor at Birzeit University’s Department of Arabic Language and Literature, received the 2022 ALECSO-Sharjah Award for Language and Lexical Studies for his encyclopedic lexicography on the morphological, lexical and contextual use of feminine expressions in the Quran.

The award ceremony was held on December 18, 2022 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates to commemorate World Arabic Language Day. The event was attended by Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and president of the American University of Sharjah.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan stressed the significance of linguistic research for preserving Arab identity and culture. He added, “We hope that these studies will act as a comprehensive resource for anyone who wants to conduct research and wishes to contribute new information to the field of language.”

This award was established to promote the Arabic language, expand interest in language and lexical studies and enhance scientific research on Arabic language and related disciplines.
