Development expert explores youth movement past and present

Director General of Wasil Center for Youth Development Mohammad Salameh talked about the role of the student movements in Palestine. Salameh spoke at the invitation of The Idea Factory at Birzeit University.

Salameh described how, despite the distinguished role the student movements played during the Palestinian struggle, they are no longer able to produce political youth leaders. "The Palestine Liberation Organization blossomed with its leadership youth; they were the reason change happened in the Palestinian context. There was a convenient environment for their energy to grow and to find its path within the Palestinian context of liberation."

Today, according to Salameh, the impact of youth movements is dwindling, due to the lack of strategic and wise planning. He went on to say that the movements now fall inside the political party framework.
