Chinese Ambassador, Academic Delegation Open Door to Academic Cooperation

Birzeit University President Khalil Hindi received on November 29, 2013 the Chinese Ambassador to Palestine Mr. Liu Aizhong to discuss academic cooperation.
Hindi briefed the Chinese Ambassador on the university and its academic programs, emphasizing the need to strengthen academic relations between Birzeit University and Chinese universities, and the importance of academic and student exchange.
Hindi said that the university administration is interested in opening a Confucius Institute branch in order to strengthen its relationship with the East, specifically China. Hindi added, "We aspire to introduce to our students and teachers, the Chinese language and culture, as we are fully aware of their importance."
Aizhong expressed his pleasure at visiting the university, referring to the camaraderie that binds the two peoples of China and Palestine, and stressed the need to continue to build academic relations between Chinese universities and Birzeit.
University faculty members also met with members of the Chinese academic delegation, where they exchanged ideas and visions regarding the region and China’s role as one of the five permanent members in the United Nations, and many other international organizations, specifically "BRICS".
All agreed on the need to establish a formal relationship between the Chinese Institute of International Studies and the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies at Birzeit University, including an exchange of researchers, joint magazine publishing and other joint activities.
