Children’s Book by Professor Makes International Honors List

The International Board on Books for Young People has announced the listing of the book “Wondrous Trips to Strange Places” by Birzeit University professor of philosophy and cultural studies Sonia Nimr on its honor list. The list is issued by the group every two years, and includes 150 authors, painters and translators of children’s and young teens’ books worldwide.

The book focuses on the adventures of a woman who defies reality when invited to attend a conference in Morocco, and receives an ancient manuscript that narrates the story of her friend "Qamar” which means moon.

The adventurer Qamar travels and faces hardships and encounters slavery, meeting people along the way whom she lives with and learns to loves and respect.

This is the second time that a book by Professor Nimr is included on the honor list. Her book, "A Story that Begins with Imagination and Ends with Lies,”  was also listed on the IBBY honor list of 2004.
