Center for Continuing Education at Birzeit University partners with UNICEF

After competing with regional and international educational institutions, the Center for Continuing Education at Birzeit University obtained the status of a "main partner" for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in the Middle East and North Africa.

This partnership is part of a long-term agreement that will enable the UNICEF offices in the region to contract directly with the center to engage with and benefit from its expertise in integrating life skills and citizenship into educational systems.

Dr. Osama Al-Mimi, director of the Center for Continuing Education, maintained that this partnership was established after the center developed “The Learning Objects” model. The model was successfully implemented in various Palestinian schools, and several studies confirmed the positive role this model plays in enhancing the educational process and promoting life skills, citizenship and knowledge productivity among students. Through this agreement, the center will expand its work and implement this model in other countries in the region.

The center will also provide many services at the regional level to enhance educational content that promotes life skills and citizenship and to develop educational systems that integrate these skills.  Moreover, the center will offer teacher training programs and will provide assistance to ministries of education in regional countries to help institutionalize such models within their educational systems.
