BZU’s Ph.D. students Hiba Tahbub and Sally Shatara participate in an international conference on universities and artificial intelligence
PhD students in Educational Development from Birzeit University, Hiba Tahbub, and Sally Shatara, participated in the first international conference entitled "Universities and Artificial Intelligence Technology", held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman, Jordan.
The two students presented a distinguished paper entitled "An Ethical Vision in the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Higher Education and Scientific Research", which addressed the ethical dimensions associated with the use of modern technology in academia.
The conference saw wide participation from representatives of 14 countries, including China Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Qatar, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, and Germany. It focused on, among other things, strengthening cooperation between the public and private sector, and educational institutions in the field of artificial intelligence, and holding workshops to raise awareness of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, In addition to reviewing the practical applications of this technology in multiple sectors.
Eminent persons attending the conference included Professor Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Arab Universities Organization, and Professor Jorge Marx Gomez of the University of Oldenburg in Germany, together with Professor Yan Shi and Professor Zhao Zhang of China, who made valuable interventions on AI's contributions to improving the quality of education and scientific research.
The conference also saw the participation of the Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hinnah, who spoke about the crucial role of artificial intelligence in supporting digital transformation and economic development in the region.
The participation of the two students in the conference was supported by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and Research at Birzeit University, reflecting the university's commitment to promoting scientific research and academic participation at the international level, and the importance of scientific research and educational development in keeping up with technological progress and ethics of its use.
