Birzeit University Welcomes the Representative of the Republic of Nicaragua to the State of Palestine

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Birzeit University President Dr. Talal Shahwan welcomed Mr. Gadiel Francisco Arce Mairena, the newly appointed Representative of the Republic of Nicaragua to the State of Palestine. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation between the two sides.

Also present at the meeting were Dr. Yaser Amouri, Vice President for Advancement; Dr. Ihab Abu Ajamieh, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs – External Academic Relations; and Dr. Najat Abdulhaq, Director of the Public Relations Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Shahwan welcomed the guest and emphasized the deep-rooted and longstanding relationship between the Palestinian and Nicaraguan peoples, highlighting the importance of this collaboration amid the ongoing challenges faced by the Palestinian people. In turn, Mr. Arce Mairena reaffirmed his country’s solidarity, as government and people, with the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance academic cooperation and exchange between Birzeit University and universities in Nicaragua, offering opportunities for student and faculty exchange programs, joint research projects, and enriching experiences and expertise of both parties.
