Birzeit University team wins first place at the Arabic Moot Court Competition

A team of students from Birzeit University’s Faculty of Law and Administration took first place in the fifth Arabic Moot Court Competition, held April 6, 2018, at the Kuwait International Law School, with Mira Salhi, a member of the team, awarded the prize for best prosecutor. 

The Arabic Moot Court Competition, an annual competition held throughout the Arab world, pits student teams from various Arab universities against each other in simulated legal proceedings. 

The team, which included Adam Al-Aghbar, Michelin Du’aiq, Mira Salhi, and Ihklas Nasser, was trained by Newar Bdair and Omran Tamimi, instructors in the Faculty of Law and Public Administration. 

The team qualified for the quarterfinals after winning three preliminary sessions in which team members faced off against teams from Qatar University, Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University, and the University of Baghdad. At the quarterfinals, Salhi and her teammates confronted the Lebanese University and ultimately qualified to the final round, which saw them defeat Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University’s team again and claim the first place in the competition. 

In addition to their win in 2018, the university’s team won first place in the 2017 and 2015 competitions, held in Kuwait and Qatar, respectively.
