Birzeit University Team on Education Study Visit to Leicester University

A Birzeit University Faculty of Education delegation participated in a study visit to Leicester University in the UK. The delegation consisted of Acting Dean Hasan Abdelkareem, Project Coordinator Anwar Abdel Razeq, former project coordinator Mousa Khalidi, professor Ahmad Iftaiha and Kholoud Issa.
The study visit is part of a three-year Tempus project intended to develop the capacity of education faculties in international approaches to teacher education. The project involves 15 universities worldwide and focuses on three main issues: teachers’ professional development, action research and the practicum. This particular study visit mainly focused on action research.
During the visit, the Birzeit team participated in workshops, presentations, research sessions, classroom observations at the graduate level, and visits to some British primary and secondary schools. The team members shared experiences and exchanged ideas to improve teacher education and preparation in all participating universities.
Consequently, the Birzeit participants acquired valuable information and knowledge that will benefit the faculty’s undergraduate and graduate programs. Last year, Birzeit has also participated in a similar study visit to the Institute of Education - University of London. The visit focused on teachers’ professional development. Moreover, the faculty will also participate in future visits to assist other universities in developing their academic programs.
