Birzeit University Student Wins international Silver with Child Protection System

On December 10, 2014, business and economics student Lana Alfred Rantisi won a second place silver medal at the Seventh International Invention Fair in the Middle East organized by the Kuwait Science Club.

The exhibition was held under the sponsorship of the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in which more than 150 inventors from 25 Arab and Western countries participated, submitting 200 inventions.

Rantisi’s invention protects children forgotten in a closed car for long hours. The system works through a sensor that detects the presence of a child in a closed car through elevated temperature, and responds automatically to ease internal pressure and thus prevent the child from suffocating.

The fair is one of the largest specialized exhibitions of inventions in the Middle East and more than 42,000 visitors passed through the event.
