Birzeit University Stands in Solidarity with the Prisoners

The Birzeit University administration, Workers’ Union, and students organized a sit-in on June 3, 2014 in solidarity with the prisoners in Israeli prisons and those detainees who have been on hunger strike for more than 40 days.

Vice President for Administrative Affairs Adel Zagha asserted that the university is proud of the Palestinian prisoners, calling on students and staff to support them. "We have to intensify our efforts to launch an international campaign for the release of our prisoners and to end the injustice perpetrated by the occupation forces against them.”

On behalf of the Workers’ Union, Rajaa’ Hamayel demanded that officials urgently make the prisoners’ issue a top priority.

Head of the Birzeit University Student Council invited Sheikh Khader Adnan to make a speech on behalf of the council, based on his experience in prison on hunger strike two years ago.
