Birzeit University Scientific Publications Cited Most among Palestinian Universities

Refereed publications of Birzeit University have achieved the highest number of citations and H-indexing among local universities, found a recent report published by SCOPUS, the largest international abstract and citation database.

Eighty-three studies by Birzeit University were published in significant international journals, which is an increase in the number of publications by 25% since 2015. Scholars and faculty members from the university's faculties and institutes, especially from the Faculty of Engineering, Science, and the Institute of Community and Public Health, have contributed to higher rankings for the university in terms of publications.

SCOPUS found that the total number of Birzeit University publications was 896, with indexing for 11,969 citations, an average of 13.4 citations per article.  The citations results reflect an increase in the quality and quantity of the university's publications – the average rate of citations in Palestine per article is 6.4, according to the SCIMAGO data base.

Most of Birzeit University's publications are research studies, although others are conference papers, books chapters, literature reviews, and so on. In addition, the university's publications are one part of joint scientific collaboration with local, regional and international scholars.

SCOPUS is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and features tools to track, analyze and visualize scholarly research. Its database contains 66+ million items indexed from +22,500 titles from more than 5,000 publishers worldwide, with broad interdisciplinary coverage in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and arts and humanities.
