Birzeit University Radio Station Hits Airwaves Once Again

In cooperation with Radio Monte Carlo International, the Birzeit University Media Development Center celebrated on November 19, 2014 the re-launching of the Birzeit University Radio Broadcasting Station. The celebration was attended by the French Consul General in Jerusalem, Herve Magro.

Speaking at the event, university president Khalil Hindi said, "I do not want this radio station to be just a number, as we already have numerous radio stations, but we want our radio station to be outstanding and a model for others.”

Agustín Favreau, cooperation adviser at the French Consulate in Jerusalem, said that his government is keen on providing political support for the Palestinian people, including support for media activities that promote freedom of opinion as one of the foundations of a Palestinian state.

Media Development Center director Nibal Thawabteh said that the re-launching of Birzeit University Broadcasting Service occurred after an evaluation period that took place between 1996 and 2011. The re-launch was then delayed because occupation authorities blocked the arrival of the required radio equipment.

The radio broadcasts four hours every day, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Some programs are re-broadcast from 10:00 pm to 12:00 midnight on the following stations:

Central West Bank: 94.6 FM

South West Bank: 99.7 FM

North West Bank: 97.3 FM
