Birzeit University Publications Gain Visibility through Research Gate

Birzeit University has made a leap forward in the number of research publications and registered researchers, academics and students on Research Gate website, the world’s largest social network for academics.The university has 584 professors, researchers and students listed as members at Research Gate from various faculties and institutes. The university academics has so far uploaded 337 research publications on the website,  with the Institute of Community and Public Health, and the departments of Physics and Chemistry taking the lead in terms of publication impact. Currently, the publication reads of BZU publications from researchers across the world are exceeding 1000 per week.Research Gate provides a new way for scholars to share knowledge and maximize the academic impact of their publications. It uses a composite ranking formula to evaluate universities, combining numerous criteria that include the “RG Score,” a metric that measures scientific reputation based on member activity and how research is received by others, and the “Impact Point,” which reflects the level of the journals in which research was published. In this context, Birzeit University received 1,290 as its RG Score and 1,026 points as its impact point ranking, which puts it ahead of other Palestinian universities in terms of impact points. Research Gate was founded in 2008 by physicians Ijad Madisch and Sören Hofmayer, along with computer specialist Horst Fickenscher. Since then the network has grown rapidly, and currently more than nine million researchers are involved in the network. Through Research Gate, users can publish their findings, distribute them worldwide, and make a name for themselves on a relevant, widely used online platform.
