Birzeit University prepares to celebrate the Birzeit Nights Festival on July 5-6

Birzeit University prepares to celebrate the Birzeit Nights Festival (Layali Birzeit) on July 5-6, 2023. Attended by thousands of people from across Palestine, the festival includes concerts and shows presented by Palestinian and Arab dance troupes and artists.

Organized in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, the Birzeit Nights Festival is an artistic and national event that aims to promote and enrich Palestinian art and folklore.

To prepare for the festival, a delegation from Birzeit University led by Dr. Iyad Tumar, chairperson of the festival and dean of Student Affairs, met with Dr. Atef Abu Saif, minister of culture.

Dr. Tumar stressed Birzeit University’s commitment to reviving Palestinian artistic and cultural heritage. Dr. Abu Saif commended the efforts of the university to preserve Palestinian identity and to provide a cultural forum where multiple generations of Birzeit University alumni and staff can meet and celebrate.

First organized in 1984, the festival was revived by the Deanship of Student Affairs in 2011 after being halted for 25 years. All festival proceeds go toward Birzeit University’s Student Fund to help low-income students finance their studies at the university.
