Birzeit University placed on world’s top 2500 list for excellence in research
Birzeit University broke into the 2019/2020 “University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP)” list for the first time, being listed along with the world’s top 2500 universities. The university is ranked the best Palestinian university, 51st among Arab institutions, and 1652nd among international universities.
One hundred Arab universities were recognized in the URAP list. University Ranking by Academic Performance is a non-profit organization established in 2009 at the Informatics Institute of Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. It measures the academic achievement of universities around the world taking into account the number of articles, citations, and research papers published.
URAP’s assessment is based on data obtained from Web of Science (WoS), one of the most prominent websites that provides comprehensive citation data for many academic disciplines.
URAP employs indicators to rank the universities’ research performance by considering the number of articles published in journals, the frequency of their citation in journals, the total number of documents published internationally, article impact total, citation impact total, and international collaboration.
Most recently, Birzeit University was ranked the first Palestinian and 41st Arab university according to the list issued by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) for 2019/2020.
