Birzeit University Participates in the Euro-Mediterranean University International Summer School

Birzeit University staff and students participated in this year’s annual gathering at Manouba University International Summer School, which was held August 18-24, 2013 in the Tunisian city of Carthage. The summer event addressed "Human rights and democratic transition between hopes and risks" and was attended by 130 participants including professors, researchers and students representing more than 25 universities from all parts of the.
Head of Birzeit University’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Department Abaher al-Sakka offered attendees a lecture on mobilization for social protest in Palestine. Birzeit student participation gave voice to the role of women within the current changes in the Arab world. Huryeh Ziadeh, a student of sociology, and Bisan Hijo, a student of French language and literature at Birzeit University, both presented papers on “the participation of Arab women in the current uprisings.” Also, master's student in sociology Abbad Yahya presented a paper on the ”failure of democratic transition in Egypt."
