Birzeit University Participates in Berlin Social Media Workshop

The Birzeit University Media Development Center joined a four-day winter school held at the Freie Universität in Berlin starting December 17, 2014. The workshop was attended by lecturers and students from the media departments of eight Arab universities and communication researchers at Freie Universität and other institutions in the  European Union.

Professor of media and coordinator of the Research and Policies Unit in the Media Development Center Saleh Masharqah said that the workshop included lectures on verifying the credibility and security of communication media, analysis of media programs for the purpose of scientific research, mixed media management skills, methods of drafting online educational and training courses, and meetings between lecturers and students, during which they agreed on new ways of teaching social media in the European and Arab universities.

The center’s participation in this winter school is part of its membership in the Arab European Association for Communication Researchers (AEACR), which held joint events last year at the American University in Beirut and the University of Manouba in Tunisia.

It is expected that the center will participate in two sessions to be held in Egypt and Lebanon over the coming year, in which participants produce an educational film on contemporary media issues.
