Birzeit University Opens Refurbished Animal Lab

The Birzeit University Biology and Biochemistry Department inaugurated a new animal unit in its laboratories on March 17, 2014, with the support of Al-Quds Bank.

Professor of biology Johnny Estiban addressed the gathering, saying that faculty’s original animal unit was established in the early seventies and included a number of animals used in experiments or scientific research carried out by students and teachers. The unit now serves more than 120 students each semester.

Estiban thanked Al-Quds Bank for supporting the restoration and rehabilitation of the laboratory, and also thanked the Birzeit University engineering office for its efforts to complete the work as soon as possible.

Al-Quds Bank Director General Samih Sabih said that the bank's support for the animal unit at Birzeit University is part of the vision of the bank, which seeks to support Palestinian higher education, and furthers its social responsibility policy.

The opening ceremony was attended by Faculty of Science Dean Wael Kerrain, faculty members and students.
