Birzeit University Kicks off International Summer Work Camp 2015

The Birzeit University Deanship of Students’ Affairs officially commenced the International Summer Work Camp of 2015 with the participation of 50 Palestinian and international volunteers.

Dean of Students’ Affairs Mohammad Al-Ahmad, head of Birzeit University’s Employee Union Salem Thawaba, the Voluntary Work Coordinator Ghada Al Omari, and the elected head of the Student Council Seif El-Islam Daghlas were present at the camp’s opening ceremony.

Al-Ahmad said the work camp, organized annually every year since 1981, emphasizes the significance of welcoming volunteers from all around the world to Palestine to enlighten them about the reality in which Palestinians are living and brings together university students and international volunteers to instill a volunteer mindset.

Meanwhile, Thawaba addressed the international participants encouraging them to “Be Palestine’s ambassadors to your countries. Do not rely on the media, observe with your own eyes and with compassion inform your friends.”

Daghlas welcomed the volunteers and emphasized the significance of building bridges between the students of Birzeit University and students of the world’s universities.

Al Omari provided details about the camp, saying that it is planned to last for two weeks and includes trips to cities and villages to learn about the Palestinian heritage. The volunteers, she added, will meet Palestinian figures, hold lectures and seminars and complete voluntary tasks.
