Birzeit University Joins Brussels Launching Ceremony of TEMPUS Winning Projects

Birzeit University participated in the two-day European Union-funded Tempus program meeting held on February 10-11, 2014. Professor of computer science Yousef Hassounah and Department of Computer Systems Engineering chairperson Iyad Tumar represented the university vis-à-vis the winning project, “Serious Games.” Professor of electrical engineering Mohammed Abu Khaizaran also attended the meeting for his winning project, “MSc. program in electrical engineering.”

The Palestinian delegation was accompanied by Tempus office representative in Palestine Nidal Jayousi. He said that Palestinian participation was more substantive this year compared to previous years, as Palestine was awarded seven project grants, of which Birzeit University won three.

Birzeit University’s Faculty of Information Technology was awarded an EU-Funded Tempus project to develop an academic program, a minor, in computer "Serious Games." The Faculty of Engineering won two EU Tempus-funded projects, the first of which was to develop a MSc. program in electrical engineering, and the second to develop a mechanical engineering curricula on the maintenance of vehicles on streets, entitled “Career-Oriented Curricula Development for Road Vehicle Maintenance.”
