Birzeit University Honors Five Distinguished Students

For excelling in community service and academic excellence, the students Anas Abu Arish and Fatimah Khalil earned the Yousef Nawas Award. Moreover, the student Eleni Mustaklem won Nimeh Faris Award for her excellence in English language and literature, an award given to the outstanding student enrolled in the BA program in English Language and Literature.

The students Nadia Tadros and Sarah Zahran from the Social and Behavioral Sciences department got Tawfiq Canaan Award for 2015 and 2014 for their research proposals related to Dr. Canaan’s published research in the fields of history, medicine, anthropology and archeology. Sarah submitted her proposal last year and carried out a research project on teenagers’ attitudes to traditional Palestinian dresses. She gave a talk about her findings on Wednesday May 13. Nadia submitted a proposal last spring and will carry out the research project in the coming few months.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Henry Giacaman presented plaques and cash prizes for students, while the students expressed their gratitude to the University, stressing their future cooperation and support.
