Birzeit University at the Forefront of Palestinian Universities in the Number of Citations according to SCOPUS

Birzeit University ranked first among Palestinian universities in terms of the number of citations for scientific publications, according to the latest data released by the global database "SCOPUS". The university comes at the forefront of Palestinian universities according to the average number of citations per scientific article and the H-index for scientific publications.

According to the statistics available to date, the H-index of the university's publications is 116, while the number of publications with citations among the university's publications is 1999 scientific articles, which received a total of 144,251 citations from researchers belonging to various universities and scientific disciplines, especially health and engineering disciplines. Thus, the average number of citations per article is 72.2, a clear difference from the next Palestinian university (36.2), and is considered among the outstanding figures at the level of Arab universities.

The SCOPUS database is the standard for university ranking statistics and is the largest global platform for published research, covering more than 47,000 journals from major publishers in various disciplines.

In a related context, Birzeit University ranked first locally in the “SCImago” ranking for the year 2024, and came within the first quarter (Q1) of universities and research institutions globally, emphasizing its leadership and scientific excellence.
